Clean-Up Day May 11!
Many hands made light work of cleaning up around the Village Hall, the parking lot and the Post Office. It took about 2 hours for CIB members to add new mulch, weed, and trim. Main Street is looking better and better. We also filled the small planters at the Village Hall with bright flowers. Stay tuned for the next projects, and contact us with new ideas!
Clean-up Day!
Clean-up Day will be May 11, 2013, meet at the Village Hall at 9:00 am. We will be cleaning up winter debris, weeding and adding mulch (thank you, Brad Rose, for all the mulch you've donated). Volunteers are needed--bring garden tools and help make Main Street look good!
Fall Clean-up Day: October 20 2012
Many volunteers came to help clean up the parking lots and around the Village Hall, and an amazing amount of work was done. Thank you to everyone who helped rake, bag, weed, scrape, chop, dig, hoe and paint! The Village Hall is tidied up for the winter, and many bulbs await spring in the beds in the front and around the trees. Same with the parking lots--look for flowers starting with the crocuses in early spring 2013. And admire the lids on the trash cans on Main Street: thanks to the Eaton-Neumanns for all the scraping, sanding and painting! We also put a coat of paint on the uprights for the Village sign on the lawn. Special thanks to Mike Hiser and Jeff Knaack for scraping the wall of the Soil & Materials building and getting it ready to paint. Word is that we may end up with a mural on that wall...stay tuned for more info.
Thank You, Girl Scout Troop 1370!
On October 13, 2012, members of Castleton in Bloom and Girl Scout Troop 1370 worked hard at the Village Hall, cleaning out the planters for the winter, and planting tulip, daffodil and hyacinth bulbs that will bloom next spring. Many hands make light work! Thanks to the leaders and girls of Troop 1370:
Leader: Kathleen Misiaszek
Scouts: Skyler Misiaszek
Kylie Roloson
Olivia Neumann
Olivia Baker
and parents Kim Eaton and Marion Baker.

Trees on Main Street
The Village has purchased some Callery Pear trees to be planted on Main Street. The Castleton in Bloom volunteer organization, who have been instrumental in decorating the front of Village Hall which looks AMAZING, have been working with the Mayor to purchase some trees to replace some that were taken down some years ago because of blight. These new trees are somewhat small (we got them for a very inexpensive price) but they will be growing and blossoming in a short period of time. Special thanks to all the volunteers of Castleton in Bloom. They water all the plants on Main Street, researched species of trees that would work for Main Street, and coordinated with our DPW crew on a planting schedule. They are always looking for new members. Contact Andrea in the Library if you'd like to be a member.

The Trees
Thank you to the Castletonian!
Castleton in Bloom members met with a Master Gardener from Valatie for a tour of Castleton's Main Street to discuss what kind of trees would work best. The Callery Pear is known for its hardiness and ornamental white flower. DPW will do the site preparation and Story's Nursery will do the actual planting.

Join Us!
Castleton in Bloom is always looking for new members to get involved in keeping our village looking beautiful. Anyone is welcome, including children! Come to a meeting (3rd Wednesday of the month, at Castleton Public Library) and bring your ideas. Or just show up at a work project--always announced on our home page--and get acquainted with everyone. Or drop us an email at [email protected].
We need people to maintain plantings, also. If you have a little time, help water the pots of flowers and the plantings at the Village Hall and parking lot. It doesn't take a lot of effort to be part of beautifying the village we all live in! |
Two Years of Projects
We all worked together to continue making our Village Hall beautiful again. In 2011 we cleaned up and planted around the Village Hall. In 2012 we continued this work, going around the building, and began work on the Village Parking lot (across from the Post Office).
